I specialize in Contemplative Psychotherapy, a modality that approaches healing and change through self-awareness and self-understanding. I studied this modality at Naropa University in Boulder, CO where I earned my Masters of Arts in 2013. My interest in this field of care was inspired both by my experiences as a Comparative Religion major at the University of Washington and by the question, “when people know what behaviors are ‘good’ for them, why do they act otherwise?”

My career as a counselor started by working with children, teens, and families in social services.  I then transitioned to working with adults in court-ordered substance abuse treatment.  I started my private practice in 2020 on Whidbey Island where I see myself as a general practitioner for a rural community.  Along with experience in counseling, I also spent ten years as a caregiver for young adults and adults with developmental disabilities.  Working with this community established my foundations in behaviorist approaches.  I find Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy are two modalities that complement Contemplative Psychotherapy.

Over the past decade I have found that everyone is unique.  My style as a counselor often changes to meet the needs and personality of the person I am meeting.  At the core of my approach is a belief in the power of values, contemplation, and transformation. I strive to create a safe, supportive and growth-oriented environment for my clients. I believe that, with the right tools and self-understanding, we all have an innate clarity and  radiant essence.
